Panel Discussion:  The Quest for Palestinian Rights


Leila Farsakh is a Palestinian political economist currently associated with both MIT and Harvard University.  Palestinian rights are central to her writings and activism in the community.  She is the 2001 recipient of the Peace and Justice Award from the Cambridge Peace Commission, Cambridge, MA.

Linda Dittmar is Professor of English at UMass, Boston.  She was born to a family which settled in Palestine in the 19th century. She grew up in Palestine/Israel and has extensive knowledge of the Israeli peace movement.

Susan Barney, a resident of Cambridge, MA, was a participant in a recent International Solidarity Movement delegation of volunteers to Palestine.  While assisting with the Palestinian olive harvest, she was arrested and held for a short time in an Israeli prison.

This film chronicles less well known aspects of our government’s relations with other countries since WWII.  Using footage from the times in question, we are given vivid glimpses into some of the less admirable exercises of power employed by our government.

  • Overthrown governments:  Brazil (1964), Ghana (1966)
  • School of the Americas:  El Salvador example.
