Our Mission Statement

"Our aim is to increase awareness of various approaches to peace and conflict resolution, oppose war, and work for social justice. Trusting our efforts will give rise to a culture of peace at Salem State College, which would be a culture of congeniality, cooperation, honesty, and respect, we pledge to further this culture of peace and stand in opposition to violence. We feel if solidarity and cmaraderie prevail, then war, killing, and violence will be reduced. If a culture of peace takes root at Salm State, it will eventually further traditions of peace throughout the region, the state, and the world..."

What some people have said about peace

"If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace"

-John Lennon (1940-1980)

"Nonviolence means avoiding not only the external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him."

-Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968)

"Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind... War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today."

-John F. Kennedy (1917-1963)

"Bullets cannot be recalled. They can not be uninvented. But they can be taken out of the gun."

-Marian Anderson (1897-1993)

"Better than a thousand hollow words is one word that brings peace."

-Buddha (560-483BCE)
